Final Verdict
Simple mobile banking for freelancers — but limited for international business and companies officially registered as legal entities, like LLCs.
N26 provides a fast, simple solution for freelancers and sole traders who travel frequently and need a lightweight account to receive client payments, track expenses, budget, and separate personal and business finances. It’s especially well-suited for EU-based remote workers, digital nomads, and early-stage entrepreneurs handling payments in euros.
Account opening and management are also easy for users to navigate. In terms of limitations, the accounts can only be opened in your personal name (not under a company name), international transfer capabilities are limited, and customer support may feel thin if you are on a lower-tiered plan.
One crucial detail to point out is that using an account in your personal name can make your business look less professional or established. Clients might feel uncertain about who they’re paying, especially if your company operates under a different name than your legal one.
If you're a freelancer or remote worker mainly operating within Europe, N26 Business can be fine. However, if you are an established company or an SME that plans to grow beyond the local market, then N26 might not be the right fit.
Key Highlights
- Free transfer within the EEA and Switzerland
- No foreign transaction fees for card payments
- Interest on account balance
- Card with cashback rewards and integration with Apple Pay & Google Pay
- Investment options, including crypto

N26 Business Bank Account Features
N26 is a German bank that offers a modern twist on traditional banking, providing all its banking services through a mobile phone application. It offers both personal and business accounts. The business accounts are tailored for freelancers and self-employed individuals operating under their own name. This means you can't use a company name on your N26 account or card.
With an N26 business account, you can send and receive SEPA transfers through the N26 mobile app and earn interest on your account balance. All business accounts come with a virtual N26 Mastercard® business card for online and offline payments, cashback on purchases, ATM cash withdrawals, and the ability to connect to Apple Pay and Google Pay for contactless payments. Additionally, one of the standout features is unlimited card payments worldwide in any currency, with no foreign transaction fees*. Lastly, you can enable notifications in the N26 app to stay updated on your real-time account activity.
However, B2B payments and transfers in foreign currencies aren't fully supported yet. N26 is gradually rolling out this feature, starting with accounts in Germany.
Here’s a quick overview of the different business account types offered by N26, along with the unique features included in each.
- N26 Standard – A free digital business bank account with a 0.55% interest rate on your balance.
- N26 Smart – All standard features plus more financial tools, a physical debit card, extra cards, access to premium partner offers and sub-accounts.
- N26 You – Designed for freelancers who travel, this plan offers everything in Smart, plus a higher interest rate at 0.75%, free ATM withdrawals abroad, and comprehensive travel insurance.
- N26 Metal – Everything in Smart, plus a metal card, a 2.25% interest rate and exclusive insurance benefits like purchase protection.

In terms of management, you can track your spending habits. N26 automatically categorises your spending into a quick monthly recap. You can also download CSVs and PDFs of all your transactions to simplify your taxes and invoicing.
Another value-added service is that eligible customers in all plan tiers can access N26 Investment option, allowing you to invest in 3,000+ stocks and ETFs directly from your banking app, with no trading fees. You can also invest in crypto.

Our Verdict: 7/10N26’s business bank accounts are a strong digital banking option for European businesses operating domestically. They offer comprehensive, modern features—including interest on daily account balances, which is rare among non-bank competitors. Fee-free card payments in any currency, combined with Apple Pay and Google Pay integration and cashback rewards, make N26’s card offering a well-rounded package. The added access to crypto services is also a notably progressive feature. However, the inability to register the account under a company name, limited support for B2B payments and foreign currency transfers, and the absence of broader integration options is quite significant, making it less suitable for businesses with global or more complex operational needs |

Our Verdict: 8/10N26 offers competitive pricing for European businesses operating within the EEA, thanks to free transfers within the EEA and the availability of a free plan despite having tiered options. However, fees for services like receiving SWIFT transfers and non-euro ATM withdrawals—especially in the lower-tier plans—can add up quickly. |
N26 Customer Support
If you have a bank account with N26, you can contact the customer support team via a secure in-app chat. The chat support within the N26 application is available daily, including Sundays and bank holidays, from 07:00 to 23:00 CET.
Phone support is only available for premium account customers (N26 You, N26 Smart, and N26 Metal), and you must call from the number registered in your bank account.
For general enquiries, you can visit their help center page, contact N26 through a visitor chat on their get in touch page or email support@n26.com.
N26 does not offer support at a physical branch
Our Verdict: 5/10One notable advantage is N26’s extended chat support hours, even on holidays—an appealing benefit once you become a client. However, beyond that, support options are limited. Phone number details and support are reserved for premium users, leaving basic account holders potentially feeling like they are underserved. Reviews on platforms like Trustpilot are mixed, and my own experience with the broken visitor chat highlights a potential reliability issue. |
